Kowloon Bay 02:41
Footprints in the sand at night Beams reflecting prism light Off the peaks onto the shore He speaks of war Grains of sand and grains of salt Can't be blamed for what's your fault Bury seeds beneath the shore Grows no more So take my eyes and sew them shut They can't believe what they can't touch Fraying threads and splitting seams Break this dream It takes a hand to cut one off And your left with rights to drop Off the cliffs into the sea
2.
Blind to my eyes at least a thousand times It takes the right light to make a diamond shine This design is so sublime can it really be the wrong time? Found fresh fruit come out to date, premature to the market. A sulfur fuse laid in my hands, what else am I to do but spark it? The embers are kept alive by the silver fan that she's waving But you can tell by the smell, it's only the filth that she's saving. Blind to my eyes at least a thousand times It takes the right light to make a diamond shine One man's trash can be considered another man's treasure And scales go off the chains when you trade pride for pleasure. The ignorance, naivety, they're rooted so deep in her nature, that's all it takes to fall in love with the shadow of this creature. Black lights blinding, Black lights binding. Black lights binding, and that's enough of that.

Still Life 04:33
In still waters and losing depth, from stagnant thoughts and shallow breath. From hallowed halls and honored steps, from times we've crawled to precipice. I'm inundated by this flood, is this the color of my blood? And as we learn our father's lies, we turn our gaze from falling skies. To make a choice and roll the dice, but you have to pay to learn the price. Always come prepared, always come prepared. Mother taught us well, mother taught us well. It's the secret of the squares, secret of the squares. Oh how can you tell, oh how can you tell? These stairs keep on rising the ground keeps on moving away. We're still ascending it seems like we're spending all day. In the hauls of these ships not sinking and not setting sail. Distorting the view of the shore through a rose colored veil.

Victory Gin 02:41
Can't sleep tonight. The sky erupts with widow's weeping The lights are off but no one's sleeping A crescent moon for the fertile crescent An entry wound with no one to dress it You can't fill a cup that is already full, mass propaganda, societal overhaul. Fear is currency to buy them control, telescreens and overalls. The rotten sludge that controls the masses, choking on the smoke and gasses. You can't fill a cup that is already full! Your king sleeps on an oil bed, so we put a price on his head. And the bodies burn just below, to keep his toes from getting cold. The dunes stand in defiance, but we're here and we'll fight your lions.

They must save us from what we don't know.

Yes it's time, time for me to go find my sunshine. It's right through those windows, it's mine all mine. Centered on a point to fine, the sun cuts the sky, and the shadows trace the lines. So I'll take the next left to nowhere, finding any excuse I can to get lost. But it's time, time for me to go find my sunshine. It's right through those windows, it's mine all mine. Finding faith in exit signs, the compass blinks an eye, and the needles all align. So I'll take the next left to nowhere, finding any excuse I can to get lost. But it's time, time for me to go find my sunshine. It's right through those windows, it's mine all mine.

Tar Pits 04:18
My friend, help me harvest this field of wheat Look to the sun, the setting is incomplete. Kneel down and fill your palms with sand the harder you clench your fist the more of it slips from your hands. My friend, with bones puncturing skin look how the black water fills, flooding the systems within. Those ties that bind your hands, pulling you down and putting you on the stand. So time, time, is your only shelter now, and all of the clocks we've wound keep coming undone somehow. So time, time, is your only hand to hold, but the hours are just too long, and the minutes are getting old. So time, this time, and the seconds that you detest, the distance won't build a shield if those blankets aren't put to rest. Now that the curtain has fallen, He said "The world's gone to shit I'm gonna swim in the tar pits!" You can't hide your eyes, So I ran, yes I ran to the mountains. From the burning skies. But the onyx and the rocks will protect me, Hide your eyes, Every second every minute every day, From the burning skies. And this end is truly the beginning, You can't hide your eyes, And the world yes the world will keep spinning. from the burning skies. And as I melt, its all so beautiful. But it's always going to be the same Sleeping in the bedrock again These hands just pass the blame Sleeping in the bedrock again An absence so hard to obtain Sleeping in the bedrock again. If you ever find that ever lasting change don't come unchained.

Blanks in one hand and a shield in the other Tying your hands to an indifferent love. Seeds in the desert make ritual bliss, Can't miss a target that doesn't exist. Story book romance rides the rhythm of the ages, but to consummate these feelings is to burn all the pages. Can you Is there freedom from shame and guilt Stay the When you separate blade from hilt Hands of The mechanism we built For no consequence! But it's his, hers, yours for the taking, Freedom from guilt and the idea of waiting. The forever dream, a practice archaic. A labor of love but only if you make it. Guilty pleasure, but who's being please? As long there's a will, we'll find the means. Can you Is there freedom from shame and guilt Stay the When you separate blade from hilt Hands of The mechanism we built For no consequence!

I know that you'd like to throw it all away, but what can we build from the waist? Do you even contemplate all the things you say? Is your reservation only temporary, and do the footsteps of your father show? Conflicting and self defeating, push and pull. I know that you'd like to throw it all away, but what can we build from the waist? These implications will stake your claim. Both right and wrong simultaneously. We will verify, vindicate. Isolate the doubt and cast away. We stand, this night, we fight, we rage against the dying of the light.

We're Horse Eats Horse and we're down to womp Won't make you make but we'll make your feet stomp Cruising round town with some new shoes and some old tunes baskin' in the sunshine of the afternoon. And soon I know I'll be drunk cause a nilla like me don't be givin a mother funk. I'll rock a nine but how am I gonna rhyme when the bartender looking so fine? We womp all day, just to womp all night. We womp the blues away, make you shake your bootay, Got you feeling alright. 'Till then I'm feeling sublime always smoking an L and I practice my lines. Like we are the dudes that rock the party, We got the move that make your girl feel naughty, We got the grooves that make you bust a move, I don't know that's just how we do! We womp all day, just to womp all night. We womp the blues away, make you shake your bootay, Got you feeling alright. Now we got you wompin' all your feet stompin' feeling really hungry what my nillas chompin? Ruben rolls, that's what I eatin Why? Cause they never displeasin' I'm coughin and weezin cause I'm always cheefin, but that don't stop me from wompin through the seasons, And all the ladies know that I'm sleazin' my feet got the stomps and the womps is the reason. We womp all day, just to womp all night. We womp the blues away, make you shake your bootay, Got you feeling alright.

Did you save all that I sent you? Had to be brave to leave you that, and if you find the message I hid there, please be kind and write me back. Did your hands scrawl these shapes to care relief or give them weight? Stained in time, the ink that binds us holds these lines between our fate. Did you save all that I sent you? Had to be brave to leave you that. Step back from the jukebox look at your life, Planets moving in elliptical patterns in the dead of night. So you think, so you think you did everything right, Look who's got the knife turned against themselves tonight. Step back from the jukebox look at your life, look who's got the knife turned against themselves tonight.

about

Practiced Scribbles is the fourth album of original material by Horse Eats Horse.
A thorough trip though multiple smeared genres running the gamut from power-pop to screamo, experimental and progressive to folky finger picking, all laced together with exciting musicianship, contemplative lyrics and latticed harmonies.

Practiced Scribbles explores the meanings we give to the otherwise meaningless symbols, ideas, objects, actions, and events that make up our lives.

about

Horse Eats Horse Portland, Oregon

Horse Eats Horse likes to play music for music's sake.
We have tons of varied influences and like to express that through our songs. Or maybe we just have collective ADD.
For instance:
"I saw your Craigslist ad, and I checked out your music, I really dig it! It is melodic, hectic, and pleasant, while at the same time being intellectual and stimulating, It is just down right pleasing to listen to."
